Four San Antonio Suspects Arrested For Stealing Laptops, Flares, Lights, And A Leaf Blower From Police Cars
Police officers don’t like it when you commit any crime. But if, say, you were to break into the County Fleet Maintenance facility in San Antonio, Texas, to steal items from police cruisers, the department might work even harder to bring you to justice. And if you’d taken something as easily trackable as a laptop, you likely wouldn’t get very far.
Four suspects in Bexar County, Texas, didn’t think this through. According to an arrest affidavit, Michael A. Garcia decided to break into some vehicles located at the county maintenance facility. He caught a ride with Vincent “Koko” Limon and Jennifer Pena-Soledad to the 4000 block of Interstate 35 North in San Antonio. While the boyfriend/girlfriend waited in the car, Garcia broke into multiple vehicles. He returned with multiple laptops, a keyboard, a laptop bracket, and an Echo brand backpack leaf blower.
Later, Lorenzo Deleon picked up Garcia so the two could try to sell the items together.
Police laptops find their way home
Police didn’t have to look hard. A man approached an investigator to surrender items “stolen from a cop car.” The man said he’d grabbed these items from a table at Garcia’s house. He told investigators he’d left a box of road flares which were next to the items.
Deputies visited Garcia with a search warrant and found the computer bracket and keyboard.
Garcia admitted to taking all the items. He also volunteered that Limon and Pena-Soledad were in the car with him. Investigators spotted Deleon’s car at Garcia’s house, so they questioned him too.
When police executed the next search warrant, they found the leaf blower and Pena-Soledad. They talked to Limon over FaceTime. He claimed someone had approached him the day before to sell police lights, a computer, and a scanner. But his story didn’t line up: none of the items would have been stolen yet at that time. He also gave details on specific items he claimed he’d never seen, after police asked vaguely about “Bexar County property.”
All four suspects face charges of theft in the $2,500-$30,000 bracket. Limon and Pena-Soledad have been released on bail.
