A woman caused a nightmare for one gas station in particular during a wreck. She hit a pump with her car, and over 500 gallons of fuel spewed out for hours. It was flowing from the pavement, over the street, and into storm drains.

North Carolina woman hits a fuel pump, spilling 500 gallons of gas

North Carolina police officers responded to reports of an accident at a gas station around 5:30 am. When they arrived, they saw gas spraying out of a pump, contaminating the area. First responders, firefighters, and hazmat crews were also called.

Raleigh police shared that a woman crashed her car into a gas pump at the Fiddle Stix Exxon at the 4400 block of Capital Boulevard. The driver of the car fled the scene, and fuel was spraying from the pump for hours.

According to My Fox 8, the Raleigh Fire Department shared that over 500 gallons of fuel spilled into the storm drains at the intersection of Capital Boulevard and Calvary Drive. Since the incident, emergency crews have contained the spill to the storm drains.

The fuel is still contained, but clean-up efforts are still underway. The Exxon and part of the street will be closed until the scene is cleared. Traffic could get backed up in the area.

Police officers haven’t released any information about the suspect or the car involved. There is an ongoing investigation into the incident. I wonder if the vehicle was caught on local surveillance cameras.

There are no related injuries to report, at least. But who knows how much that spilled fuel and closure will cost Exxon.
