‘Ratchet Strap the Doors’: Customer Brings Smart Car To Shop. Then 7 Mechanics Get Inside
Mike Max and his crew at MadMaxC7 in Georgia squeezed seven mechanics into a Smart car for a condensed challenge that fogged up the tiny two-seater’s windows. On the line was $700.
“I’ll give you a hundred dollars apiece, but all seven have to fit inside the Smart car,” the cameraman starts.
But as they pile in, he jokes, “I’m not gonna lie. I don’t have no cash.”
This is the latest stunt from the content creator known for transforming a Corvette into a Mad Max-inspired steel-plated monster.
But first, let’s talk about the car itself.
The Little Car
Smart is a German automotive brand founded in 1994 as a joint venture between Swatch (remember those bright, rubber 1980s watches?) and Mercedes-Benz, originally called Micro Compact Car (MCC).
The brand’s first model, the Smart City-Coupe (which they changed to the “Fortwo”), launched in 1998. It is a tiny two-seater measuring just 8.8 feet long, designed for easy parking and the best possible fuel efficiency. We’re talking 40 mpg in combined city/highway driving.
Mercedes-Benz Group, then called Daimler, eventually took full control of the brand. Smart cars became recognizable for their compact “Tridion safety cell” design and were marketed to professionals and creatives as practical city vehicles. The Fortwo was the flagship, and later, the brand debuted the slightly larger Forfour.
In 2019, Daimler partnered with Chinese automaker Geely, and Smart shifted toward electric vehicles. The brand now concentrates on electric vehicles manufactured in China.
The car in MadMaxC7’s video is a gas-powered Fortwo. So, why do these daredevils have one?
Who Is MadMaxC7?
Mike Mahdi, or Mike Max, runs MadMaxC7, a multi-platform automotive content operation with substantial reach across TikTok (866K followers, 28.8M likes), Instagram (660K followers), YouTube, and Facebook. His tagline describes his approach: “I get bored and play with fire.”
Mahdi and the channel gained exposure for an insane, signature build: a Mad Max-inspired Chevrolet Corvette C7 wrapped in 10-gauge steel plates welded to steel pipes, producing 875 horsepower. The apocalypse-themed vehicle famously caught fire during a burnout contest in Las Vegas in 2024.
MadMaxC7 creates content that features extreme builds, drag races (including a Tesla Cybertruck vs. Ram TRX matchup), welding projects, and various viral challenges.
This challenge is just one of many videos featuring the Smart car. In another, they even played tug-of-war with the car’s driver.
Putting seven regular-sized guys in a Smart car is impressive, no doubt. But it is not a record.
A Famous Stunt
There is actually a legitimate Guinness World Record for stuffing people into a Smart car.
Back in 2011, 20 members of the Glendale (Arizona) Cheerleading Team set a Guinness World Record by cramming into a Smart Fortwo. They achieved this record at the Staples Center in Los Angeles for the show, “Guinness World Records Gone Wild.” It was matched in 2014 by Comets Cheerleaders in Milan, Italy, on Guinness-affiliated, “Lo Show Dei Record.”
A video of the record can be seen here.
The Peanut Gallery
One person wrote in the Facebook post, “They better hope 1. Someone took a shower. 2. Everyone wearing deodorant. 3. Hopefully No one had beans for lunch. 4. And finally, hope they don’t pass gas.” A commenter suggested they “ratchet strap the doors.”
Another person joked, “All 7 of them are gonna say, ‘you better [expletive] out $700’ after they surround the pit with you in it.”
One man said the video pulled pleasant memories for him: “Flashbacks to clubbing in early 2000s. Fitting as many bodies into one small vehicle to go to the club lol.”
