Washington semi-truck falls 200 feet

Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson was one of the first police officers to respond to reports of an accident after a semi-truck briefly took flight.

The incident occurred on southbound I-5 and South 375th Street in Federal Way, around 7:17 AM. Rush hour traffic was snarled as the trucker flipped off the side of the pavement.

It landed about 200 feet away from the highway, in a wooded ravine. It crushed multiple trees, creating challenging debris to navigate around.

The trailer carrying a load of soda didn’t fair well. However, the doors flew open during the wreck, spilling aluminum cans along the way. Plus, the front of the trailer split open. As the semi-truck landed, hundreds of sodas spilled out, blocking the passenger door.

According to Komo News, the driver sustained minor injuries. Things could have been much worse; he’s lucky to be alive. There is an ongoing investigation into what caused the wreck.

Southbound lanes of traffic closed for hours as police officers secured the area. Equipment was brought in to assist with cleanup efforts.

Along with more soda than you can imagine, pieces of the trailer and the cab had to be retrieved from the forest floor. If you live in the area, there might be a shortage of your favorite soda at local grocery stores.
