A semi-truck made the highway thunder as it flipped in north Texas. It sent $800,000 worth of dimes across the pavement. Some drivers were stuck in traffic for hours as crews cleaned up the mess by hand.

Semi-truck flips spilling $800,000 worth of dimes on Texas highway

A semi-truck filled with dimes flipped over on the southbound lanes of U.S. 81/287 near Farm Road 1655 around 5:30 AM. The wreck was pretty expensive as millions of dimes scattered across the pavement.

I can only imagine how loud the chaos was as coins pelted the road. According to police officers, the trucker veered off the roadway and then overcorrected, causing the semi-truck to flip on its side.

The truck driver and passenger were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. They’re currently in stable condition.

According to WFAA, Wise County resident Sebastian Vasquez was held up in traffic on his way to work when he witnessed the aftermath of the accident. He was tempted to get a bucket and start collecting some of the $800,000 worth of dimes.

Alvord firefighters were on the scene as the highway was closed for hours. Crews worked diligently to clear the scattered dimes from the road. The coins were sifted through dirt and picked up by hand.

Clean up crews worked past 6 PM, meaning the road was closed for over 12 hours, causing traffic to back up all over the city. But at least the semi-truck driver and passenger don’t have serious injuries. Also, it’s unclear where the dimes were heading.
