The Knowlton Fire & Rescue Company No. 1 was in for a sweet surprise when it responded to an accident on I‑80. Two semi trucks collided late on a Monday night, covering the interstate in peanut M&Ms.

The semi truck loaded with chocolate was reportedly traveling west, past milepost 2.4, at 10:15 p.m. Its driver failed to see another semi truck parked alongside the highway, and slammed into the stationary semi’s trailer.

Both trailers tore open like piñatas. When authorities arrived, they found a scene that could have been straight out of a Willy Wonka movie. Hundreds of packages of Peanut M&Ms were scattered across the road.

Cleaning up the Peanut M&M crash

Fire & Rescue created a detour to divert traffic. Then the department checked over both drivers, who both declined treatment.

Knowlton Fire & Rescue reported it had cleared the scene of candy by midnight. Just in time for a midnight snack. You can see coverage of the crash in the video embedded below:
