The Porsche sat half-crooked in the mouth of an underground garage off South Jackson Street, looking like someone parked in a hurry and hoped the world wouldn’t notice. Well, Seattle officers did. When they found a guy asleep at the wheel, they tried to wake him up. But he startled them right back.

Police arrived just after 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3. A 911 caller reported a driver slumped over the wheel.

The car didn’t display a license plate. Officers also spotted a covered VIN, which told them the Porsche likely didn’t belong to the man inside.

Detective Eric Muñoz explained that officers tried to wake him and make contact. The driver jolted up and instantly drove forward into the police SUV. Then he reversed and did it again.

The ramming continued until officers managed to pull him from the Porsche

Two officers ended up with minor injuries during the scramble to detain him.

According to KOMO News, Muñoz said that once they secured him, they found a gun among his belongings. He explained that the man never displayed it during the ramming, but it raised the stakes of an already dangerous situation inside the tight garage.

Police later confirmed the Porsche was stolen. Muñoz reported that the driver also carried multiple outstanding warrants.

The moment he chose to wake up swinging a two-ton sports car at officers turned a simple check on a slumped-over motorist into a felony arrest with property damage, assault on officers, and a long list of fresh charges.
