Police salute Good Samaritans who saved Florida woman dragged by SUV [Video]
Picture this: you’re leaving a Florida DMV when you see an SUV dragging a woman across the asphalt. What would you do? In Jacksonville bystanders didn’t hesitate. They dropped their coffees, bolted out of the door, and turned a near-tragedy into a rescue mission—before the SUV could even hit the exit.
Bystanders rush to save Florida woman being dragged by SUV
On March 12, security cameras caught a terrifying scene in a Jacksonville DMV parking lot. A Florida woman clung to the open rear door of an SUV as it pulled away—scraping her legs across the pavement.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO), “witnesses saw a man attempting to drive away in an SUV while a woman desperately tried to remove her two young children.” Investigators said the driver, 26-year-old Yanni Human, was driving off “against the woman’s will, dragging her and one of the children through the parking lot.”
It took just seconds for the parking lot to explode into action. “More than a dozen Jacksonville Good Samaritans stepped in during a dangerous situation,” JSO wrote on Facebook. People streamed out of the DMV lobby. More raced to the scene from their parked cars.
Thanks to their fast thinking, “the bystanders were able to get the woman and children to safety before the driver left,” according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Quick action stops a tragedy—and brings a manhunt
Human ditched the scene, but he didn’t get far. Bystanders gave 911 dispatchers a full description and a license plate. Police Task Force officers spotted Human later that day.
Bodycam footage shows Human asking police, “What did I do?” over and over. Officers arrested him outside a shopping center. He now faces a laundry list of charges, including child abuse, false imprisonment, battery, marijuana possession, and resisting an officer without violence.
When that woman hit the Florida pavement, she wasn’t alone for long. Dozens of strangers had her back—without knowing her name or story. Sometimes the world feels broken. But days like this remind us it’s still full of people willing to sprint toward danger to help someone else.
In a social media post, JSO said, “This situation could have ended in tragedy. Your JSO is grateful for the quick action and bravery of the Good Samaritans who stepped up and helped bring the suspect to justice.”
