Saudi Arabia Is Developing a Wedge-Shaped EV That Makes the Cybertruck Almost Look Normal
Saudi Arabian automaker Ceer Motors is developing the country’s first EV. The prototype electric SUV reportedly borrows its technology from BMW, Rimac, and Hyundai. Where it gets its bizarre styling and design is anyone’s guess.
First of all, the fact that a Saudi Arabian automaker is building an electric vehicle is already unusual. As of Sept. 2024, electric vehicles accounted for just over 1% of overall car sales in Saudi Arabia. Then there is the fact that the country is one of the world’s top oil producers, meaning it makes a lot of its money from gasoline. Throw in the scorching hot temperatures in the summer, and a typical EV battery is going to struggle there.
That said, this new EV prototype from Ceer is reportedly being funded by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF). So they must know something that the rest of the world doesn’t.
The new Ceer Motors EV prototype from Saudi Arabia is certainly unique
One such thing they must know that no one else does is the reason behind the design of this yet-to-be-named electric SUV. According to Response, the wedge-shaped EV has butterfly or gull-wing doors and the world’s largest windshield. That giant windshield also reportedly has a sound-absorbing layer and a “wide color band” that acts as a colored sunshade. CarBuzz says the window will also come with an IR reflective coating so its occupants don’t get cooked by the sun.
Also of note: those triangular wheels. Wacky.
Response says the Saudi Arabian Ceer Motors EV is scheduled to be officially unveiled in 2026, while other reports say 2027. It is currently being tested at a secret testing facility in Europe. No specs or pricing information is currently available on the bizarre-looking SUV, so stay tuned.
