Minivan driver with a gun follows Memphis woman to Chick-fil-A after she honked to let him know the light turned green
A routine morning drive turned threatening for a Memphis motorist. What should’ve been a harmless honk at a green light turned into a terrifying case of road rage.
It happened just before 8 a.m. on June 4 along Winchester Road. It’s a busy east-west route in southeast Memphis. The woman was behind a tan Toyota Sienna at a red light. When the light turned green and the Sienna didn’t move, she gave a quick honk to nudge things along.
Instead of driving off, the man behind the wheel apparently took it personally.
He fell in behind her and followed her straight to the Chick-fil-A drive-thru nearby
Once there, police say the man got out of the Sienna, walked up to her vehicle, and pointed a handgun at her.
He reportedly threatened to shoot and claimed the weapon had a “switch.” That’s slang for a Glock conversion device that turns a semi-automatic into a fully automatic weapon.
By the way, the modification would make the gun federally illegal. Not to mention wildly dangerous in any parking lot, let alone a breakfast rush at Chick-fil-A.
When Action News 5 shared details about the road rage incident, police still hadn’t identified the minivan driver.
Road rage cases like this aren’t rare anymore
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Everytown Research both point to a rise in aggressive driving with firearms.
In 2023 alone, the Pew Research Center says there were over 550 gun-related road rage incidents in the U.S. That’s more than one per day.
This time, no one was hurt. But over a car horn and a chicken biscuit, it came uncomfortably close.
