There are mistakes. There are screw ups. And then there’s “Did we just crash into a Reno police building at 2 a.m.?”

Early in the morning of Thursday, September 11, someone called Reno 911. A red Audi crashed into the brick wall of the Regional Public Safety Training Center, where firefighters and police officers learn and practice their trade.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office raced to the scene around 2:05 a.m. The car had veered off the road, flattened two bushes and a tree, then stopped against the brick wall at the front of the complex. No airbags deployed. Neither the driver nor his adult male passenger reported injuries.

The officers conducted an investigation, then transported the driver to the hospital for a checkup and breathalyzer test.

Thirty‑four‑year‑old Simon Perez was charged with driving under the influence and destruction of property. He has no prior DUIs. It’s good to know no one was seriously injured during the crash, and hopefully Perez can learn a lesson from his first such incident. You can see photos of the crash in the Facebook post embedded below.
