Most drivers jump at the chance to call the Toyota Tacoma a reliable truck. While some older trucks can outlast rivals, the 2025 model isn’t the most reliable mid-size truck you can buy. An American underdog actually outranks it.

Drum roll, please! The most reliable mid-size truck for 2025 is the Ford Ranger. Are you surprised? I am with the number of recalls and problems that the Ford F-150 has been struggling with. 

According to U.S.News, the 2025 Ranger has a reliability score of 87 out of 100 from J.D.Power. That’s an excellent score, and it’s above average. 

Scores between 70 and 80 are average, while ratings between 81 and 90 are above average. Anything between 91 and 100 is best. Meanwhile, the 2025 Toyota Tacoma has a reliability score of 79, placing it in the average category. However, that’s still respectable. 

Also, the 2025 Ford F-150 earned a rating of 78. The most reliable full-size truck for 2025 is the Ram 1500. It earned an incredibly high rating of 89 out of 100. I’ve been obsessing over vehicles for a long time, and this is the highest score I’ve seen. 

The Tacoma’s rating took a dip because a new generation was launched in 2024. The 2023 model has a score of 83. However, the Ranger was also redesigned for 2024, and the 2023 model was an 87. 

So while the Tacoma took a dip, the Ranger remained steady. The scores are based on feedback from actual owners. Surveys are sent out to drivers, allowing them to report any problems that they may have faced from engine failure, paint chipping, electronics, and more.
