The redesigned 2026 Mazda CX-5 makes big, controversial choices
Say hello to the redesigned 2026 Mazda CX-5. It launches the third generation and has been the brand’s best-selling model for years. However, the CX-5 embarks on massive changes that may shock its fans.
The 2026 Mazda CX-5 is here with significant changes
First of all, some folks may be disappointed by the way the 2026 Mazda CX-5 looks. It doesn’t feel very different from the outgoing model. But the revised headlights and modern rear end look great in my humble opinion.
Also, the CX-5 is bigger than before. It gained 4.5 inches in length and is now half an inch wider. This provides an increase in cargo and passenger space, which is something drivers have been asking for.
Now here’s what may create the most controversy. The new CX-5 has a touchscreen! There’s a 12.9-inch display with a few physical buttons and touch-sensitive controls.
The old rotary dial control is officially gone. Some may miss that unique system that kept distractions at bay, while others have been begging Mazda for touchscreen controls for quite some time.
According to Mazda, there is a strategic reduction in buttons, but many drivers want cars to have physical controls. Also, there’s an available 15.6-inch infotainment screen, and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto is standard.
The 2036 Mazda CX-5 launches with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 187 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque. However, the hybrid powertrain is coming soon, and AWD remains standard across the lineup.
While making improvements for space, technology, comfort, and performance, the CX-5 remains true to its unique personality with a sleek and elegant interior design. Pricing hasn’t been released.
