Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe recall due to battery pack control failure

If you own a 2022 – 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe model, then you might get to make a thrilling trip to a local dealership for service.

Over 91,000 of these hybrid Jeep SUVs are being recalled because they could suddenly lose drive power in traffic. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the unexpected loss of propulsion may cause a crash without prior warning.

The issue is related to a software error in the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) battery pack. Basically, the control module microprocessor could become overloaded as it misinterprets signals from the battery pack control module.

This may cause the system to reset. During the reset, your SUV could suddenly lose propulsion during the process.

I assumed that the solution for this problem would be related to software updates. But I was wrong! The fix is currently under development. Stellantis will begin notifying owners at risk via mail by October 23, 2025.

You can use the NHTSA VIN checking tool to see if your Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe is at risk. Also, you can contact Chrysler customer service at 800-853-1403. Chrysler’s number for this recall is 73C.

The automaker has received 96 owner complaints, 110 field reports, and 320 service records related to the problem. However, Stellantis is unaware of any related accidents or injuries.
