The first Ford recall of 2026 is here, and it’s a doozy. Over 450,000 Ford trucks and SUVs have an engine fire risk. Drivers are being warned to not to plug in the engine block heaters until after they get replaced. This comes just in time for a brutal winter.

Over 450,000 Ford trucks and SUVs have a fire risk

This warning is for all owners of Ford trucks and SUVs. The automaker is recalling over 450,000 vehicles in the United States and Canada because the engine block heaters may catch on fire.

There are 46 reports of engine block heater fires related to this dangerous problem. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the engine block heater may overheat when the vehicle is parked with the block heater plugged in.

The engine block heater might crack, allowing coolant to leak and cause a short circuit. To reduce the risk of an under hood fire, owners should refrain from plugging in vehicle engine block heating systems until a repair is completed.

In America, the recall includes:

  • 2013-2018 Ford Focus
  • 2013-2019 Ford Escape
  • 2025-2016 Lincoln MKC
  • 2024 Ford Explorer

In Canada, the recall includes:

  • 2021-2024 Ford Bronco
  • 2021-2024 Ford Bronco Sport
  • 2013-2022 Ford Escape
  • 2016-2024 Ford Explorer
  • 2013-2018 Ford Focus
  • 2022-2024 Ford Maverick
  • 2019-2024 Ford Ranger
  • 2020-2022 Lincoln Corsair
  • 2015-2019 Lincoln MKC

Ford will notify owners at risk via mail by February 13, 2026. However, the fix isn’t ready yet. The automaker estimates that they will be ready in April and will send a second letter.

Signs of a damaged engine block heated mat include loss of cabin heat, smoke, burning odors, a low coolant level, and puddles of coolant on the garage floor or driveway.

Ford’s number for this recall is 26S01 or 25SA4. You can contact Ford Customer Service at 866-436-7332 for more information.
