It’s not every day that the SWAT team has to get involved to stop a Texas driver. However, the man used a military-style truck to hit about 10 cars. Then he led a chase of over an hour that involved gunshots and tear gas.

Texas driver leads chase in military truck until the SWAT team shows up

Police officers in Harris County, Texas, received reports of a hit-and-run around 10 PM. One off-duty officer even saw the driver hit another vehicle and speed off.

When officers initiated a traffic stop, the man in the military-style semi-truck without license plates hit the gas. While fleeing from officers, the driver hit at least 10 other cars and kept going.

He led a chase for about 75 minutes, refusing to stop. Spike strips were deployed multiple times, but the driver kept going. Multiple tires were shredded as sparks went flying.

According to ABC 13, the truck briefly stopped near Beltway 8 and Garret Road. An officer fired a shot, and the driver took off again.

The driver continued as multiple shots were fired in an attempt to disable the vehicle. Plus, the driver kept ramming into police vehicles.

Eventually, the vehicle stopped, and the Harris County Sheriff’s SWAT team arrived on scene. They said, “Driver, if you can hear me, exit the vehicle or with your hands in the air.”

But he ignored them, so they decided to deploy tear gas and were able to take the suspect, identified as 53-year-old Omar Moreno, into custody. There were no related injuries, and Moreno was not struck by gunfire.

Moreno’s motive remains unclear, and he didn’t have any weapons with him. Now he faces three counts of aggravated assault and one count of evading arrest.
