Pickup buyers want a truck that can last for a long time. So the iSeeCars went through years of vehicle registrations and ranked the 15 pickup trucks most likely to hit 250,000 miles. While the Ram 3500 topped the list of trucks most likely to hit 250,000 miles, Ram’s half-ton 1500 landed at the bottom. But don’t worry, every truck on this list lasts longer than the average vehicle. Here’s how all 15 stack up:

RankMake/Model% Chance of Lasting 250k+ Miles
1Ram 350042.6%
2Toyota Tundra36.6%
3GMC Sierra 2500 HD29.1%
4Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD28.7%
5Ford F-350 Super Duty28.3%
6Ford F-250 Super Duty27.4%
7Ram 250027.2%
8Toyota Tacoma26.7%
9GMC Sierra 3500 HD26.0%
10Honda Ridgeline25.8%
11Chevrolet Silverado 150018.8%
12GMC Sierra 150016.1%
13Ford F-15015.8%
14Nissan Titan14.8%
15Ram 150011.5%

The average vehicle has an 8.6% chance of reaching 250,000 miles. But a few vehicles are much more likely to get there. These include several full-frame SUVs, many pickup trucks, and a bunch of other models from Toyota and Honda.

As you can see above, every one of the top 15 longest-lasting pickup trucks has a higher likelihood of reaching 250,000 miles than the average vehicle does. And the top 11 pickup trucks are more than twice as likely to hit 250,000 miles than the average vehicle.

Obviously, not every pickup truck available in the U.S. made this list of the 15 longest lasting. Multiple compacts and mid-size trucks, such as the Ford Maverick and Ranger, the Nissan Frontier, and GMC/Chevrolets Canyon/Colorado are missing. But the Honda Ridgeline unibody, compact truck earned spot #10. And of the trucks that actually made the list, the Ram 1500 came in dead last.

Which pickup trucks last the longest?

To be blunt, the trucks with the easiest life and the best maintenance are probably the ones that last the longest. So why do so many pickup trucks land on the list of vehicles most likely to hit 250k miles? The truth is that automakers engineer them to stand up to heavy-duty jobs such as towing and plowing. But the trucks that end up with easier lives have a good shot at lasting longer than the average vehicle.

Another variable in a truck’s lifespan is how much its owner is willing to invest in maintaining it. At some point, owners often must choose between investing in a new vehicle or a high ticket repair bill such as a frame swap or an engine swap. The pickup trucks that last the longest may have a reputation for longevity, which makes it easier for owners to justify these big investments.

Which Ram truck lasts the longest?

Ram’s one-ton 3500 pickup truck has a 42.6% of hitting 250,000 miles. Its 3/4-ton 2500 has a 27.2% of reaching the same mileage. And its half-ton 1500 has an 11.5% chance of getting to a quarter-million.

Heavy-duty Ram buyers often order them with Cummins diesel engines, which also have a reputation of lasting 250,000 miles or more. So those truck owners may be more likely to repair other components such as suspension or even a transmission.

Is the Ram 1500 an unreliable truck? Some owners complain about build quality issues, but very few of its complaints are for majorpower train problems. And with an 11.5% chance of hitting 250,000 miles, it lasts longer than the average vehicle.
