Car thefts and burglaries are all the rage these days. Multiple news outlets are covering stories across the nation about groups of thieves targeting specific cars because they’re easy to steal, have expensive parts they can sell on the black market, or because the vehicle itself is expensive and easy to steal and ship away.

Trucks are the most popular victims, as they’re plentiful and expensive. Look at Ford F-Series trucks—thieves discovered the LED taillights being full of sensors, which have a full retail price of up to $3,000. They can easily be removed by unscrewing a few screws after lowering the tailgate and sold online as new for less.

If it’s not taillights, it’s valuable engines, transmissions, or 4WD systems. Or, the truck itself. As one owner of a Ram 1500 TRX discovered, thieves are desperate to steal the semi-rare Baja racing-inspired, V8-powered beast. A thief was caught in the act, and the owner’s reaction was… Strange.

The owner caught the Ram burglar red-handed

A thief, armed with what looks like a computer that plugs into something to start the Ram, was caught on a security camera climbing onto the truck’s bed cover. From there, he broke the center window and climbed into the cab.

A few seconds pass before the owner catches on, though. Instead of calling the police, yelling, or knocking on the window, he decides to break it. In his anger, he shattered the window of his home above where the truck was parked.

Naturally, it scared the thief so badly he opened the door and ran away, causing the Ram’s alarm system to blare.

Viewers had theories as to why he reacted that way

After seeing the glass fall onto the Ram’s bed cover on YouTube (@MoparcrazyExotic), many assumed that they’d see the owner fall onto the truck next.

“I honestly thought he was going to come flying from the window out of the house,” wrote a viewer.

Someone else thought the owner broke the window to make room for a weapon.

“I fully expected to see a round emptied from the open window,” another wrote.

Another guessed they figured they might as well, considering the other damage done.

“‘Screw it, I already gotta replace one window. Might as well make it two,’ – The truck owner, probably,” they wrote.
