If you didn’t expect the return of the Ram 1500 HEMI to be a big deal, think again. This V8 engine caused a stir when it was discontinued. Now it’s sending waves through the truck world again with excitement and delays. 

Drivers want the Ram 1500 HEMI, but it’s causing delays 

Stellantis gained 10,000 orders for the Ram 1500 HEMI during the first 24 hours of its official return. As Ram trucks have been struggling to keep up with the Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Silverado, this is excellent news. 

It could mean that Ram is turning the tide after struggling for months against declining sales. It costs $1,200 to add on most trims and is expected to arrive at dealerships this summer. However, the influx of orders may have led to delays. 

To get production firing on all cylinders, production of the V8 engine is being moved from Mexico. Production is expected to be shifted to the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant in Michigan by August. 

It may take a little time to prepare the plant in Michigan for the changeover. Plus, the 5.7-liter engine is being put ahead of other projects. 

According to Car and Driver, the Ram 1500 REV and Ramcharger have been pushed back until 2027. The electric truck and its hybrid brother might have a 2028 model year. Also, the hybrid variant is expected to arrive before the fully electric REV. 

Stellantis is reassessing its production strategy to align with its competitive advantage, among a decreasing interest in electric trucks. Plus, rumors suggest that it’s making the HEMI engine more efficient. 

The 5.7-liter V8 engine provides 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque. It gets an EPA-estimated 17 mpg in the city and up to 23 mpg on the highway, but these figures could improve soon.
