Unfortunately, trucks can catch on fire. There are a number of reasons, but sometimes the blame is placed on the automaker. Stellantis feels the heat as Ram 1500 diesel owners get $3,000 if their trucks went up in flames.

Ram 1500 diesel owners could get $3,000 for truck fires

The jury has made its verdict. After five years, the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler lawsuit has settled.

Unfortunately, Ram is guilty! The settlement awards $130,000 to 26 plaintiffs named in the lawsuit and will get $5,000 each. If you can prove that your truck caught on fire, then you could qualify for $3,000.

This whole fire issue and lawsuit stem from a recall in 2019. According to Car Complaints, Ram shared that the EGR was susceptible to thermal fatigue, which can cause the cooler to crack.

Then the cracks may allow coolant to leak, increasing the risk of fire. Ram is aware of four people who sustained minor injuries while trying to put the fires out. The recall involved roughly 108,000 trucks manufactured between 2014 and 2019.

To fix the issue, Ram replaced the EGR coolers and intake manifolds as necessary at no cost. However, owners complained that replacement parts weren’t available for months.

Stellantis has agreed to a warranty extension to cover the cost of a failed repair for five years from the date the old cooler was replaced. If the cooler fails within that period, then you’ll get a free repair.

But owners of Ram 1500 EcoDiesel trucks will have to provide proof of the repair and payment.
