Imagine the surprise: Thieves thought they had nabbed a random Range Rover and made a clean getaway. By morning, they were pursued by a small army of devoted fans intent on repossessing the SUV.

They had unknowingly stolen a radio DJ’s wife’s vehicle. And he wanted it back.

KROQ’s Kevin Klein is the co-host of the popular Klein/Ally Show. One morning, he told listeners that his wife’s Range Rover had been stolen from their driveway overnight. The vehicle’s GPS pinged its location several times before someone disabled the device.

The data suggested the SUV was parked on a city street. Klein shared the address and made a request on air: Could anyone nearby check it out?

Listeners responded immediately. They located the Range Rover street-parked on a hill in Koreatown.

Listeners block the car while the DJ stays on air

Klein later explained, “A couple of listeners were hanging out on the street blocking the car so it didn’t get moved.”

He decided not to call police. Instead, he called his wife. While Klein stayed on air, she drove to Koreatown with her keys, started the vehicle, and drove it away.

“It was kind of incredible how quickly—and how many people—helped track it down,” Klein said.
