Pregnant couple flies to Mexico, finds resort abandoned “kinda creepy”
Here’s a real-life travel story that morphed from a dream vacation into something else. A surreal, waking nightmare.
When Utah couple learned they were pregnant, they decided to celebrate. Cameron and Carly booked a “baby moon” and splurged on a five-star resort in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
The flight went well, and they made it to the Grand Velas resort alright. Staff lined up to greet the pregnant couple and wish them a happy stay. So far, so good. But there was only one thing off. The lobby was empty. There wasn’t a single other guest in sight.
The couple checked into their room and stepped on the balcony to enjoy the pool view. The pool was also completely empty. No kids playing. No sunbathers lounging nearby.
“There was something really strange about the place.”
Carly admitted, “At first it started as a joke because I started recording on our first day and not seeing anybody but employees, but you can see as the days progress, it starts to freak us out.”
The two had a moment of reckoning when they tried to partake in a “group activity” the hotel put on. The staff advertised everything from ping pong to dancing. But every time Cameron and Carly arrived, there was no one else around. They realized they were the only guests.
“There was something really strange about the place. This was kind of creepy, but we had this whole entire resort to ourselves.” So it begs the question: Was something wrong with the resort? Did other travelers know something Carly and Cameron didn’t?
They went from running through the empty halls laughing and shouting, “Echo!” and joking about “This entire kingdom just for us” to needing answers.
When they confronted the staff, they got just that answer. Grand Velas Resort had just opened. Carly and Cameron were its first ever guests. Officials told the couple, “They operate 100% no matter how many guests are there.”
