Police officers share that Jeep SUV thefts are increasing

If you own a Jeep SUV, then this warning is for you! The Jeep Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, Wagoneer, and other new models are being targeted by thieves.

California police officers are urging drivers to be aware of rapidly increasing theft in the area. Extra steps may need to be taken to protect SUVs.

According to CBS News, officers shared that thieves are breaking the windows of Jeep SUVs to gain entry. Then they start the vehicle and disappear in minutes. Plus, the factory-installed GPS systems are often removed, making recovery difficult.

You can rely on the standard security system as officers explain that they’re being easily bypassed. To make matters worse, detectives don’t have any leads. There is no information about the suspects or what they drive.

To protect your vehicle, officers recommend installing a secondary GPS system that’s hidden from view. Also, install steering wheel or tire locks to prolong the process of getting away. This can act as a deterrent as well, since being fast is the key to success among criminals.

You can also install a loud security system, park in well-lit areas, or park within range of surveillance cameras. Aftermarket immobilizers and kill switches are helpful as well.

Los Angeles police officers feel as if this could be linked to a much larger crime ring. They ask for your help by immediately reporting stolen vehicles. Also, contact the department with any tips at 4110@lapdonline or by calling 310-444-1505.
