There’s probably rarely a dull moment for police officers in Detroit. A few cops had their hands full as a crack-smoking suspect tried to hit them with his truck. Shots were fired in order to protect their safety.

Detroit police officers shoot at crack crack-smoking truck driver

Police officers with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit were investigating while undercover. They were near Woodward Avenue and McNichols Road when things got dicey.

They approached a suspect sitting in a red pickup truck and announced themselves as police officers. Then the man floored it in their direction. One officer fired two shots before jumping out of the way.

According to the Detroit News, the suspect wasn’t struck. However, he lost control of the pickup and hit a tree stump. The truck became stuck, and the officers started approaching again. While attempting to get the man to exit the track, he was smoking crack cocaine.

As the man became aggressive and refused to comply with demands, officers used an electric shock device to subdue him. He was transported to a local hospital as a precaution and cleared by emergency medical staff.

Luckily, no one was injured. The Detroit Police Department is investigating the incident as normal required protocol for deputy-involved shootings. Information about the suspect hasn’t been released due to the ongoing investigation.

Sheriff Raphael Washington shared that, unfortunately, officers run into these dangerous situations. But they’re trained to handle these situations properly, and the officers acted by the book.

Everyone was kept safe, and they can move forward with their investigation.
