Detroit police search for truck driver who spilled 175 gallons of antifreeze

Police officers in Warren, Michigan, are looking for a truck driver they believe to be responsible for spilling about 175 gallons of antifreeze early in the morning hours.

The incident occurred on Eight Mile Road, by Van Dyke Avenue. According to Click on Detroit, authorities say the culprit was driving a black Ford pickup while pulling a trailer.

Then a large plastic container fell from the trailer and spilled antifreeze all over the road. Witnesses last spotted the truck heading north on Van Dyke Avenue heading toward Stephens Road.

The container didn’t have any markings or information that could be used to identify the driver. However, there was a yellow cage in the Ford truck bed.

Due to the size of the spill and environmental concerns, traffic is closed until the cleanup can be completed. The emergency response and cleanup are estimated to cost over $10,000.

Antifreeze can cause corrosion to tires and render them unrepairable. It can also soften and damage a car’s paint. Plus, it can cause metal components to corrode. It’s best to clean antifreeze off your vehicle as quickly as possible.

Skin contact with antifreeze can lead to irritation, redness, and pain. It’s a toxic pollutant that contaminates soil. I wonder why the driver had such a large amount.

Anyways, if you have any related information, please contact the Warren Police Department at 586-574-4771.
