Massachusetts police officer justified in shooting carjacker
The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Admilson Vizcaino, terrorized drivers and residents during a multi-city crime rampage across Middle Sex County. Things escalated as he stole a Chevrolet SUV from a gas station around 12:45 PM.
Police officers failed to initiate a traffic stop 14 minutes after the incident. Around 2 PM, the suspect was linked to shop lifting at another gas station, but got away for hours. He traveled from Malden to Everett, then crashed the stolen SUV near Encore Boston Harbor.
Vizcaino tried to gain access to other cars in traffic before climbing into a garbage truck at a red light. Police officers rescued the driver before Vizcaino took off. He struck light poles and fire hydrants and entered the sidewalk.
He was tased multiple times, but still took off in the truck and was armed with a knife. After refusing to listen to police officers, shots were fired, and he was struck. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
According to NBC Boston, there was an investigation into the shooting as part of normal procedures. The case found that the officer was justified in using deadly force.
The district attorney’s report states, “The Republic Services truck driver and citizens in the area were in imminent danger of death or serious bodily injury at the time Officer Daniel Wall fired his firearm.”
Vizcaino faces charges for four counts of attempted armed carjacking, two counts of armed carjacking, and armed assault with attempt to rob. There are additional motor vehicle charges.
