Florida police officer explains why Jeep Wrangler ducks lead to tickets
Every Jeep Wrangler owner wants to get ducked. However, too many rubber ducks on your dashboard might be a problem. A Florida police officer explains why the cute little duckies could result in a ticket.
Jeep Wrangler ducks might get you pulled over
Steve Montiero, a State Trooper and traffic safety expert in Orlando, Florida, was asked if it’s legal for Jeep Wrangler drivers to have rubber ducks all over their dashboards and windshields.
Having a duck on your dashboard isn’t illegal. However, having too many rubber ducks can lead to problems and may result in a traffic ticket. Montiero advises drivers to be mindful of how many ducks sit behind their windshields.
If they obstruct your view, they can be considered a safety issue, resulting in a ticket. If they block your view, a police officer may claim that they’re impairing your ability to safely operate your Jeep Wrangler.
Also, it’s not illegal to place a duck on a parked Jeep as long as you aren’t causing damage, trespassing, or interfering with someone’s vehicle in a harmful way.
According to Click Orlando, the practice is called Jeep Ducking or Duck Duck Jeep. It’s a worldwide sensation among Jeep owners that started in Ontario, Canada.
After Allison Parliament went through a carjacking at a gas station, she placed a rubber duck on another Wrangler just to smile. Then the Jeep community responded like wildfire with a strong sense of community.
It’s another tradition among Jeep Wrangler owners, such as the Jeep Wave. You hold up two fingers to represent victory during WW2. It’s a sign of acceptance and mutual respect.
