Florida police buy an ice cream truck with drug seizure money
Police officers in Orange County are excited about a new truck in their fleet. Oddly enough, it’s an ice cream truck that was purchased with drug seizure money.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is using the vehicle to hand out free frozen treats. You might spot it in traffic near your neighborhood soon.
According to Click Orlando, officials share, “OCSO has a new ice cream truck purchased with money seized from drug dealers. We’re turning money meant for bad into something good for the community.”
There’s even a sign on the side of the truck with happy emojis explaining that the vehicle came from drug money. But it’s unclear who is buying all of the ice cream. Also, it is legal for officers to obtain a portion of the funds seized from the assets of drug dealers.
More decals and text are related to law enforcement, with messages like “to protect and serve.” Some criminals may feel upset upon seeing the truck that was funded by their crimes. But protecting the commuting and serving justice can be pretty sweet.
The police department is partnering with local non-profits to bring the vehicle to events to spread joy among the community.
Plus, the vehicle highlights the officer’s commitment to building genuine relations, spreading positivity, and strengthening trust.
