Kentucky police crush $100k street racing SUV

First, do you know what the Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat is such a prized SUV, valued at over $100k? The Durango Hellcat is powered by a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8 engine that delivers 710 hp and 875 lb-ft of torque.

It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph, making it a pretty enticing option as a street racing SUV. Plus, it features plenty of racing upgrades such as 20-inch Stan carbon wheels, Brembo six-piston front brakes, and SRT paddle shifters.

Some fans (including us) have been mourning the loss prized 2021 Dodge Durango Hellcat just met its harsh fate in Louisville, Kentucky. That is at least until we found out why it smushed.

The shattered glass and crumpled metal are meant to inspire other racers to stop what they’re doing. Street racers, you have been warned. Seized vehicles could be destroyed.

It’s unclear how much time or money the owner spent on modifying it before it was confiscated during the Street Rod Nationals.

Before the Durango was murdered, it was referred to as a Frankenstein vehicle because most of its parts were actually stolen. It’s hard to tell if some components were installed by a professional or not.

According to WLKY, in most cases, seized cars are used or auctioned off by the police department. However, this model simply had too many liabilities and cost concerns.

Since the street racing ordinance was passed, the LMPD has seized about 167 cars involved in street racing. Most were picked up by their owners after a six-month seizure period. However, four were auctioned off, one was scrapped, and another was crushed.

Mayor Graid Greenberg shared that the city seized 70 cars in 2024, setting a new record. So far, it has confiscated 35 cars in 2025.
