Minnesota police find beer cans in fire truck after wreck

The Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office in Minnesota are searching for answers in the aftermath of a deadly accident.

Reportedly, a Wood Lake Fire truck crashed around 6:30 PM. One of two adult passengers became trapped under the vehicle and passed.

Another passenger, a six-year-old child, and the driver were transported via air ambulance to a hospital in Sioux Falls with severe injuries.

Police officers shared that the driver was a firefighter, and the person who lost their life was a retired firefighter. Upon investigating the scene, they found several 12-ounce cans of beer in and around the truck.

According to Kare 11, the Sheriff’s Office filed a warrant to obtain a blood sample from the driver, as they believe he was operating the truck under the influence of alcohol.

The warrant states that the accident happened on a clear, sunny day. Also, the emergency occurred on a straight section of the road.

Evidence suggests that the truck was heading northbound on 490th Street when it veered off the east shoulder and struck a mailbox.

Then the driver may have overcorrected, causing the truck to roll multiple times before landing in the westbound ditch, slightly north of 160th avenue.

I would like to know how fast the truck was traveling. Also, what is the make and model of the truck? Fire trucks can weigh between 19,000 – 80,000 lbs when fully loaded.

No charges have been filed against the driver, but that could change as the investigation continues.
