It’s time to set the upcoming mid-size Ram truck and compact Toyota truck aside. Because the next Hyundai truck could be beefier than both of these new pickups, as it arrives fashionably late to the party. A new patent shares juicy secrets.

The new Hyundai truck is a rugged off-roader

The secrets are starting to spill about an upcoming Hyundai truck that Americans will get to enjoy. Hyundai has confirmed that its new truck will arrive by 20203.

That feels far away, but stay with me. It’s also confirmed that the truck will ride on a body-on-frame platform, making it more durable for off-roading.

Body-on-frame builds provide more suspension range and flexibility. Plus, these types of trucks can be easier and more  affordable to repair. Also, the platform is being developed in-house.

So, don’t expect this new truck to be a soft little ute that’s based on an SUV like the Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz.

According to Patent Scope, Hyundai is working on a design for a pickup vehicle with a lower vehicle body with a drainage structure to protect electronics. It prevents water from collecting around or flowing over the power electronics system.

This reminds me of a Jeep Wrangler, because you can remove a plug to drain hose water and under debris. Also, does this mean the Hyundai truck will be built for water fording?

Plus, it can prevent water from rusting the frame, and it’s always best when water and electronics don’t mix.

However, the design also seems pretty smart for an electric truck. Kia is working on an EV truck for America, but Hyundai could be focusing on something different.
