Only One Full-Size Truck Brand Improves in 2026 Dependability Rankings
Uh oh, there’s a new report that doesn’t have a lot of good information for trucks. Most full-size truck brands have taken a drop in dependability rankings. The one brand that didn’t get a lower score compared to last year isn’t exactly the most popular option.
Only one full-size truck improved in dependability rankings
While most trucks are falling down, the Ram 1500 is moving on up. According to the J.D.Power 2026 United States Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS), every truck brand except for Ram has more problems compared to last year.
The study is based on surveys sent to drivers after three years of ownership. It includes 184 areas from the driver experience, comfort, quality, and more.
This is to find the vehicles with the fewest problems. Trucks, cars, and SUVs are ranked on problems per 100 vehicles. A lower score is better.
In 2025, Ram had 242 problems per 100 vehicles, and in 2026, it had only 216. This is a sizable improvement as the amount of problems reported overall has greatly increased year over year.
- Toyota had a 162 in 2025, which has increased to 185 in 2026.
- Ford earned a 208 in 2025 and now has a 228.
- Chevrolet had 169 in 2025 and earned a 178 in 2026.
- GMC got a 181 in 2025 and now has a 229.
So, Ram is the only full-size truck manufacturer with an improving score. Overall, Lexus is the brand with the best dependability, and Volkswagen is in last place.
The biggest number of problems stems from over-the-air (OTA) software updates. Also, drivers report issues related to mobile phone integration.
There are Apple CarPlay and Android connectivity problems, issues with charging pads, and complaints about Bluetooth systems.
