“It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!” Police officers in Parma Heights, Ohio, must have felt like they were in a Peanuts cartoon when a call went out on Tuesday, Oct. 7: Giant runaway pumpkin on the street.

No, it wasn’t some blue-ribbon-sized gourd with a grudge. The culprit was an inflatable Halloween lawn ornament that had come loose from its guy wires and was rolling down the street.

Catching the escaped giant pumpkin

Police hopped in their cruisers to catch up to the pumpkin. But you can’t exactly nab a monstrous pumpkin from a squad car. They reported they were “following it” on foot. In released body cam footage, the officers add that “it kept blowing away.”

After some fancy footwork, the police finally caught the giant pumpkin. But what next? Several officers attempted to deflate it, without any luck. Finally, they worked together to jam it into the back of a police car and drive it home.

“I’ve never seen that before.”

They took the giant pumpkin back to its home lawn, “to be enjoyed by all who pass it throughout the remainder of this fall season.” You can see the spook-tacular chase footage in the video embedded below:
