The Saint Louis police had a bit of a scare that might be considered karma. While doing their best to keep citizens safe, they were attacked. Someone threw fireworks in their police SUV, causing an explosion.

St. Louis officers are in for a scare as fireworks explode in a police SUV

In an effort to keep citizens safe during the Fourth of July weekend, police officers were out in full force. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD) announced a crackdown on illegal activities.

They decided to focus on enforcing firework laws and holding parents accountable for their children’s actions. But not everyone was happy about their decision. One resident threw fireworks into the back of a police SUV

It exploded in a blur of sparks and bright colors, causing significant damage to the Ford Explorer interceptor. The back window exploded, and there were burn marks on police equipment. The department probably faces an expensive repair bill.

Along with replacing the rear window and possibly the rear light bars, the upholstery might need to be cleaned to remove the odor of smoke.

According to Fox 2 News, there were no injuries related to the incident. It’s unclear if officers have a suspect in custody or if the culprit remains at large. But it provided an example of just how dangerous illegal fireworks can be.

Things could have been much worse if the SUV had been traveling through traffic or if the police SUV caught on fire. Also, whoever threw the fireworks might have just made things personal. Police officers will continue their crackdown.
