Customs and Border Protection officers discovered 152 lbs of meth hidden in a pickup truck. The truck was trying to cross the border from Mexico into California. The drugs would have made it into the country if K9 officers failed to detect them.

CBP officers find 152 meth hidden in a truck

A 46-year-old man is in federal custody after Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers discovered 152 lbs of meth hidden in a 2024 pickup truck. It could be worth over $1.2 million on the streets.

The truck driver was trying to cross at the Calexico West Point of Entry when he passed an initial expectation. Then a CBP K-9 officer alerted personnel to the rear’s driver side of the vehicle. These hard-working dogs are just as important as police dogs.

According to the CPB, it was then taken for a secondary inspection. Imaging technology found several irregularities in the front passenger and rear seats.

Upon a physical investigation, they found 11 packages of methamphetamine wrapped in aluminum foil. They were under the floor of the vehicle, under the rear seats factory compartment, and under the fenders.

Roque Caza, Area Port Director of Calexico shared that this interception underscores the officers’ continued diligence and commitment to national security.

He continued to explain that he is proud of the officers’ exceptional ability to remain steadfast and vigilant while carrying out our mission and keeping our communities safe.

The truck driver was turned over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations for further investigation. Also, the narcotics and vehicle were seized by CPB officers.

The name of the 46-year-old suspect has not been released as the investigation is ongoing. Hopefully, the K-9 officer was rewarded for doing his job with bacon or a fresh pack of tennis balls.
