North Carolina Mayor Gets Another DUI After Crashing SUV
A mayor in North Carolina has some explaining to do. He faces another DUI charge after drunkenly crashing his SUV. How does this man still have his license after being convicted four times? The last one was back in 2019.
North Carolina mayor gets another DUI after SUV crash
Creedmoor Mayor Antwane Downey drunkenly crashed his Volvo SUV. He ran into a ditch and slammed into a tree on U.S. 15 near State Road.
Police officers noted that he was driving under the influence again. Downey has four DWI charges. But the last one was in 2019, so he may have gotten his act together for a while.
Police officers are still waiting for his blood draw results for alcohol. However, it’s a safe bet that his blood alcohol content was over the legal limit of 0.08%.
Creedmoor Mayor Pro Tem Archer Wilkins addressed the crash during Tuesday’s Board of Commissioners meeting.
He shares, “The city is aware of an incident involving Mayor Downey, which occurred on Monday night. I ask that you pray for the health of our mayor as he continues to heal from his injuries.”
However, others are questioning whether he should be in office. According to WRAL, there are charges against him spanning back over two decades. The list of charges includes reckless driving, driving with an open container, and driving with a revoked license.
After his charges in 2019, Downey was required to receive a substance abuse assessment and possible monitoring or treatment as part of those convictions.
Downey shares, “Tell Creedmoor that I still love them. This is a slight mishap, and I’m doing everything that I can to take necessary steps to get better.”
