‘I Just Want Some Clarity’: Woman’s Nissan Goes To The Dealership For Long Repair. Then They Give Her An Infiniti—But It Doesn’t Work Either
A woman is calling out Nissan after an attempted defective sunroof repair led to a series of other issues.
TikTok user Amanda Heineke (@amheineke) says that she recently upgraded to a new 2025 Nissan Pathfinder Platinum from Kerry Nissan in Florence, Kentucky. However, soon after the vehicle came into her possession, it had problems.
In her first video, Heineke reveals the first issue with the new Nissan Pathfinder.
“The first thing that went wrong is, after a heavy rain, I had water pouring into the roof of my car through the panoramic sunroof,” Heineke explains. “It was even coming in through the overhead lighting, so I knew it was affecting [the] electrical wiring as well — and there’s a high risk of there being mold development down the road because of the amount of water that was coming in.”
Concerned, she brought the car into the dealership, which determined the problem to be a faulty panoramic moonroof. Fortunately, the dealership fixed it the same day under warranty. Little did Heineke know that her problems were just beginning.
What Else Went Wrong With This Nissan Pathfinder?
After the fix, a persistent smell lingered in the car. Months into ownership, the smell did not go away.
“Just before Christmas, I took it in to be serviced. They determined it was a defective air box that was causing the odor. They didn’t go into detail, but they did say, ‘We have to order a new air box, and it’s gonna take some time to come in because of the holidays,’’’ Heineke recalls. “Perfectly fine.”
Once the holiday passed, Heineke called the dealership for an update. They informed her that the fix was “much more invasive than we expected” and provided her with a Nissan Altima.
Over a week later, the dealership told her that they broke a part on the dashboard attempting to put it back in.
“So I asked to speak to the general manager, because I now have lost complete confidence in this vehicle with all the issues that we’ve had, and I don’t want the vehicle back. Truly,” she says.
“I drive a lot, three hundred to four hundred and fifty miles a week. I have two kids in my car, and I just have lost confidence in this vehicle and their ability to fix it. Also, how many issues I’m going to have down the road? Whether it’s mold from the water that came in through the panoramic moonroof, or whether it’s some kind of issue with the dash, or if it’s something completely unrelated to both of these, [or] if I just really got a bad car,” she continues.
The dealership seemed initially receptive to attempting to work out these issues.
Things Get Worse
Unfortunately, Heineke’s temporary replacement Nissan had infotainment glitches. When she returned to the dealership, she says she was left in the dark about updates with her car. She also says that she was placed in a new loaner car that also had issues.
“They put me in an Infiniti QX80, 2026, and the volume knob does not work,” she says. “The sales guy and I have been sitting here for half an hour trying to get my phone to connect to Apple Carplay.”
“No matter what we do and what we’ve tried, it will not connect to Apple Carplay,” she continues. “And, I know it’s not my phone because it has connected to every other vehicle that I have been driving.”
This was eventually resolved by using another profile on the CarPlay system — but Heineke says she isn’t happy with how everything has played out.
Eventually, Nissan Consumer Affairs reached out to Heineke. According to her, they offered her an extended HVAC warranty and a single month’s return on payments, which she feels is inadequate. The dealership also emailed her demanding her Infiniti back. The email specifically mentioned her negative reviews, calling her and her family’s reviews of their dealership “not in good faith and borderline illegal.”
In her latest update, Heineke shares she is having issues with the battery and is heading back to the dealership.
Are These Nissan Problems Typical?
Heineke’s issues with the dealership aside, many may wonder if the problems she observed are common in Nissan and Infiniti vehicles.
First, others have reported water leakage issues with the Pathfinder. A post on Reddit detailed some of the manifold issues observed with the leaking roof. These include leaks, improper drainage, and more.
Another thread on Facebook showed that several Pathfinder owners also had this problem. These included the issue where the water leaked from the lights.
Resolutions to this problem vary. Some say that they were able to get their roof resealed and that the problem was solved. Others say that certain tubing needed replacing. Finally, a few mentioned that they have been dealing with the issue for months and that none of the proposed resolutions have worked.
If you’re experiencing this issue early on in car ownership, chances are high that it’s covered by your warranty. It’s best to attempt to resolve this problem with the dealership. However, as Heineke’s story shows, that doesn’t always mean you’ll get the resolution you need.
Airbox issues appear considerably less common.
Is Infiniti Known For Having Apple CarPlay Issues?
Other internet users have noted that Infiniti vehicles can occasionally struggle with wireless Apple CarPlay. Although that’s not unique to Infiniti cars.
Many different infotainment systems struggle to fully integrate Apple CarPlay. Consequently, issues with the software are fairly common.
In the case of Infiniti vehicles, internet users have worked out a few fixes to CarPlay issues. If one has updated their car’s firmware and it’s still not working, drivers recommend deleting your phone from your car’s software, then deleting both the Bluetooth and WiFi connection from your phone. Turn the car off, then power it back on. From there, one can reconnect with Bluetooth, at which point the software should work.
If this proves ineffective, one can try the many other fixes that exist for Apple CarPlay issues.
