New York man drives truck through fence at Buffalo airport
Police officers had a crazy start to their days as a New York man decided to attack the Buffalo airport. He drove his truck through a fence off of Genesee Street and accelerated toward a runway.
The incident occurred around 7:30 AM as the driver made it over a taxiway before police officers stopped him in the grass. They pulled him out of the vehicle and took him into custody near a plane used for training exercises.
According to WIVB, the incident only lasted for about six minutes. The suspect is described as a local male. His name hasn’t been released as there is an ongoing investigation into the incident.
The man has been charged with felony criminal mischief, criminal trespass, criminal tampering, obstructing governmental administration, failure to obey traffic devices, reckless endangerment, and reckless driving.
However, the suspect is expected to face more state and federal charges. The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA) didn’t share if any weapons were in the suspect’s truck.
NFTA Police Department Chief Brian Patterson shared that the NFTA is partnering with the FBI to complete the investigation.
Surprisingly, airport operations and traffic were not impacted by the incident. That means there were no flight delays. Also, imagine looking out of a plane window to see a man getting arrested on the ground!
