The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina is investigating a break-in and burglary at the home of late NASCAR driver Greg Biffle. Biffle, his wife Cristina, and their two children were among seven people killed in a plane crash in December.

According to the incident report, deputies responded to Greg Biffle’s home in Mooresville shortly after 6 p.m. last Thursday. Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell said on Wednesday that the thieves broke into a safe in Biffle’s home. They stole a backpack, $30,000 in cash, as well as some guns and NASCAR memorabilia.

“We’re working the case. We are waiting on some digital evidence,” ESPN reports Campbell said. Among that evidence is footage from the home’s security cameras. Police are also interviewing neighbors, looking for possible witnesses. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are also still investigating the cause of Biffle’s fatal plane crash.

The police report lists Greg Biffle’s niece, Jordyn Biffle Carpenter, and Cristina’s mother, Cathy Rose Grossu. No one was in the home at the time of the burglary, and the authorities have not made any arrests.

Greg Biffle is just the latest professional athlete to be the victim of a home burglary

In February of 2025, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced that it had created a “coordinated operation spanning multiple jurisdictions to investigate burglaries that targeted the homes of several professional athletes.”

The operation stemmed from a series of home burglaries of professional athletes, including Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Linval Joseph, Kansas City Chiefs players Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, NBA players Luka Doncic, Karl-Anthony Towns, Mike Conley and Bobby Portis, and Dallas Stars hockey player Tyler Seguin. All of them had their homes broken into and items stolen while they were playing in games.

Prior to Greg Biffle, burglars targeted the home of WWE superstars Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch while they were away working. And in May, Canadian soccer player Jordyn Huitema was the victim of a home invasion at her and her boyfriend, Seattle Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez’s, home when armed robbers broke into the house. Mariners pitcher Luis Castillo also had his home burglarized twice, while Dodgers pitcher Blake Snell and former Seahawks defensive back Richard Sherman were also victims of burglars.
