Regarding innovation and high-performance cars, Nissan has long been a prominent name in the automotive world. The Nissan Z-series is a line of sports cars that Nissan has manufactured in seven generations since 1969. The first Z was released in October 1969 as the 1970 model year. It was known as the Nissan Fairlady Z in Japan and the Datsun 240Z in the U.S.

Its latest generation debuted for the 2023 model year, with the Nissan Z NISMO variant hitting the market for the 2024 MY. This article takes a deep dive into what makes the Z NISMO special, exploring its features, specifications, and pricing to showcase its potential as a top-tier sports car.

The Nissan Z NISMO: A glimpse into the future of Nissan sports cars

The 2024 Nissan Z NISMO builds upon the legacy of the revered Z lineup. Here is a rundown of some of its notable features.

Powertrain and performance

The 2024 Nissan Z NISMO has a 3.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V6 engine with 420 horsepower. Revisions to the car’s twin-turbo engine boost power outputs to 420 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque, increases of 20 hp and 34 lb-ft compared to other Z models. It also features an enhanced engine oil cooler for extended track performance.

According to Car and Driver, the Z NISMO will only be available with the nine-speed automatic transmission. Still, it comes with NISMO-only clutch packs and retuned engine management software, resulting in nearly twice as fast downshifts and more aggressive launch control at the start. There is also a Sport+ mode, which is designed to be so quick on downshifts that the driver does not even need to use the shift paddles.

Design and aerodynamics

Exterior revisions to Z NISMO were specifically engineered to improve aerodynamic performance on the race track. A revised front bumper and splitter package add downforce at the front. Motofutura says the front of Z NISMO prominently features a styling element called the “Grand-Nose” or “G-Nose,” which extends farther forward than on other grades. New side sills also help reduce drag, while unique 19-inch Rays wheels are wrapped in sticky Dunlop SP Sport MAXX GT600 tires that are wider at the back.

Pricing for a fully loaded Z Nismo

The price for a fully loaded 2024 Nissan Z NISMO can vary depending on optional features, packages, and regional considerations. According to the Nissan News website, the price for a fully loaded Z Nismo will be $64,990. However, extras like splash guards, dual racing stripes, and an illuminated kick plate will cost extra.

2024 Nissan Z NISMO technology and interior features

The 2024 Nissan Z NISMO features a unique Alcantara®-appointed cockpit with red accents throughout. The Start/Stop button and drive mode selector are anodized to match the interior’s red color scheme. The digital dashboard now features updated graphics that mirror the exterior’s red outlining and display a unique startup animation for NISMO models.

The Recaro seats, upholstered in leather and faux suede (and manually adjustable only), feature a red center and NISMO logos on the headrest, and the steering wheel has also been redesigned to feature a red accent mark at the top. While keeping the analog gauges and climate dials, Nissan also includes the digital features you would expect in a modern car, like a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, an 8.0-inch touchscreen that works with smartphones, and adaptive cruise control as standard.

The Nissan Z NISMO stands as a testament to Nissan’s dedication to performance and design excellence. With its updated aerodynamic features and powertrain, the Z NISMO is an excellent addition to Nissan’s lineup of sports cars. As enthusiasts eagerly await its release, the Z NISMO promises to set a new standard in the world of high-performance sports cars. The Z Nismo will be available in Fall 2023.
