Can you guess which mid-size truck gets stolen the most? I’ll give you a hint: it’s not one of the most popular options to buy. Rival trucks have much higher sales, so why are thieves targeting a model that’s struggling?

What is the most stolen mid-size truck?

Drum roll, please! The most stolen mid-size truck is the Jeep Gladiator. This is surprising as the Toyota Tacoma is extremely popular to buy. I would expect thieves to go for popular models for the resale value and available parts.

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Gladiator had 264 whole theft vehicle claims between 2022 and 2024.

It’s the only mid-size truck on the list of the top 20 vehicles with the most claims. The GMC Sierra landed in fourth place with 768 claims. The Chevrolet Camaro is the most stolen car overall.

Thieves could be targeting the Gladiator because it presents more opportunities. It’s easy for criminals to clone the key fob signal and gain control of the truck. The process allows them to unlock the doors and start the engine.

Rumors suggest that the Gladiator is easy to take because the alarm wire can be cut and the engine can be easily jumped. Drivers have shared that thieves took their trucks in three minutes or less.

Plus, unique Jeep Gladiator features such as the removable roof and doors could make it attractive. Some critics think that thieves target it for the manual transmission, but the Toyota Tacoma is available with a manual transmission too.

Steering wheel locks, wrapping your key fobs in tin foil, and parking in well-lit areas can help you beef up security.
