When I say “most ‘Detroit’ car ever,” what do you think of? Many folks would say a big old Cadillac sedan. Here’s the 2026 twist: North American buyers no longer want a full-size internal combustion Cadillac sedan, so Cadillac only sells its CT6 in China. Maybe Chinese car buyers just have more swagger.

Cadillac still builds a CT5 (regular trim and Blackwing) for the U.S. But it defines this as a “luxury midsize.” It even builds a CT4, but that’s a “sport compact.” The 2020 model year of the CT6 was the final one offered in the U.S. At that point, production ended at Factory Zero and moved to China.

Chinese buyers seem to love the CT6. General Motors just decided to engineer a new generation for the Chinese market. It features advanced comfort tech such as damping using electromagnets and something called magnetorheological fluid to smooth out its aluminum multi-link independent rear suspension.

The new CT6 isn’t what you’d call a “driver’s car,” as it has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder making just 233 horsepower. This Cadillac is only available with a 10-speed automatic transmission. But considering most of its buyers will likely have a chauffeur, this is an understandable choice.

Up front, it does have a massive, curved, 33-inch 9K display. It also features GM’s Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system—though it doesn’t come with cutting-edge LiDAR, which limits its usability. That’s especially surprising because China now allows fully self-driving vehicles. But again, if all CT6 owners already have a chauffeur on payroll, perhaps they don’t care.
