The Ford F-150 is indeed the most popular truck to buy. However, that doesn’t mean that it’s the most affordable truck to ensure. The pickup king is actually undercut by a close rival, and I have a feeling that it stings a little.

What is the most affordable truck to insure?

According to Mercury Insurance, the most affordable full-size truck for insurance is the Chevrolet Silverado. It came in second place on the list of the most affordable trucks to insure.

The first place pickup is actually the smaller, mid-size Chevy Colorado. The Ford F-150 sits in sixth place while the Toyota Tundra enjoys fifth place. So two full-size trucks are cheaper to insure than the F-150.

Also, the Ford Ranger and Ford Maverick are tied in third place. The Colorado outranks the Ranger, providing another burning win to put in Ford’s face.

The Toyota Tacoma is in seventh place, the Ram 1500 is in ninth, and the GMC Canyon is in last. Surprisingly, the Nissan Frontier didn’t make it in the top 10.

In 2025, the average cost to insure a full-size pickup is about $2,439 per year or $203 per month. But plenty of factors can cause rates to change. For example, a 35-year-old with good credit and a clean record typically gets the best deals.

Plus, location matters. States like Louisiana and Michigan have higher average costs than Hawaii and Idaho.

There are plenty of different types of coverage to consider, with optional coverage packages that lead to higher premiums. Also, selecting a higher deductible can provide lower monthly premiums.
