Four-wheelers, ATVs, quads. Whatever you call these off-road vehicles, they definitely don’t belong on the highway. But after three Michigan men stole four-wheelers late one night, they took to I-75. Police weren’t having it. And when the thieves headed for the woods, the cops called in the dogs.

The Michigan four-wheeler caper kicked off just after 3 a.m. Troopers got a call: stolen ATVs spotted flying southbound on I-75. Officers jumped into pursuit. The suspects refused to stop. Instead, they veered off the freeway near Auburn Hills and disappeared into the trees.

While fleeing the police, through the woods, something unexpected happened. The thieves popped out on Chrysler Corporation’s historic main campus (Now Stellantis’ North American headquarters). Not the best place to lay low.

Michigan police call in backup to catch four-wheeler thieves at Chrysler

It’s unclear how the thieves managed to stumble past security and accidentally find themselves on a corporate campus. But it is clear police weren’t taking any chances.

Michigan State Police, Auburn Hills Police, and Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies all swarmed the scene. Officers blocked off Chrysler Drive with about 20 cruisers.

Cops found two of the Michigan four-wheeler theft suspects and cuffed them on-site. The third one slipped away. But police weren’t done yet. A pond sat just beyond the Stellantis building. So officers launched a boat and deployed K9s to track the missing man. That’s right, they went full Rambo on the Chrysler campus.

Authorities confirmed the four-wheelers were stolen from Groveland Township—30 miles north of the corporate campus.

By 10:30 a.m., most of the squad cars cleared out. But the mystery of suspect number three remains. If you’re going to run from the Michigan cops on a four-wheeler, maybe don’t end up at the HQ of a global automaker with a parking lot full of security cameras. Just a thought.
