There’s a handful of legacy automakers synonymous with luxury, and Mercedes-Benz is one of them. And not all Benzes are created equal. Even cars that come outfitted with the iconic three-point badge have a hierarchy. And those that carry the additional AMG emblem are indicative of more feature-rich and performance boosted enhancements.

Unfortunately for one AMG Benz owner, Luke Giroud (@lukegiroud), one perk his AMG C 63 doesn’t come with is dependability. Which is a particularly glaring omission for a ride that starts at $87k brand new. “My AMG is the most unreliable car I have ever seen,” he writes in a text overlay of a new TikTok. A caption for his post indicates the issues present in his vehicle.

“Check engine, check roof panel, check suspension, check brakes. Heads up display is out, Apple CarPlay doesn’t work. Checking every [curse] tire, this car is done for!” he writes. Throughout his clip, he narrates his woes with the Benz.

AMG road trip nightmare

“Yesterday I took a nice little trip to New York City. It was my boy’s birthday. So you know I brought the AMG out, we were vibing, we’re going places,” he says, showing off a picture of his car parked on a Big Apple street. However, his holiday to the city that never sleeps wasn’t without its issues. “Yet again, we got another check light,” the TikToker says, showing off a picture of the car’s dashboard.

“I don’t know what this is for, I don’t know if this is brakes. Or like suspension,” Giroud says, pointing to the yellow warning indicator on the AMG’s dash cluster. Furthermore, he was taken aback by the cost of gasoline in the city. He snaps a picture of pump prices in New York. Regular was billed at $5.39, plus at $5.79, and Supreme $6.39. The Benz owner witnessed first hand the “city tax” New Yorkers and visitors are hit with when paying for gasoline. “Also why the [curse] was gas six dollars and 40 cents in New York? Like bro, I know I have an AMG but bro…in this economy?” he says to the camera.

Ticking clock

After his gas price rant, Giroud stated that he can only cruise around in his vehicle for 60 minutes or so. Any longer, and he’s assailed with some type of messaging telling him there’s something amiss with his whip. “Anyways, I can’t drive my AMG longer than an hour without it just being absolutely cooked. And I don’t know about y’all. I don’t care how much money I have I am not paying some $7 a gallon,” he says.

Additionally, the money woes with his car has made him want to give up on working, and driving cars, altogether. “This [curse] is making me want to officially apply for unemployment and just start walking everywhere. And maybe even take the bus.”

At the very least, Giroud tells viewers that the series of faults associated with his car have prompted him to ditch it for good. “Say goodbye to the AMG, this [curse] is not lasting much longer,” he remarks at the end of his clip.

New Benzes = Unreliable?

When stacked against other car brands, Mercedes-Benz doesn’t exactly have the best ratings for reliability. At least, that’s according to the independent research group Consumer Reports. The agency, which acquires its own vehicles, is often referenced as an unbiased and competent evaluator of products.

Many auto enthusiasts have praised the stalwart nature of older Mercedes-Benz offerings. The W123 and W124 body styles, particularly, have built a reputation across decades of driving for being bulletproof. This is a stark contrast to the assessment of Consumer Reports’ current evaluation of the brand. Used car reliability sits at #11, and owner satisfaction, along with maintenance and repair cost, hovers more towards the bottom of the pack at #26.

CR analysis goes on to state that “like most European luxury brands, used Mercedes-Benzes can have expensive out of warranty repairs.” Furthermore, a write-up from the group says that the vehicles come with “an expensive base price …. and below-average reliability.” Which isn’t a good combination for folks who expect a car they paid a lot of money for to work without a hitch.

Commenters sound off. User error?

While Giroud rattled off a list of problems with his C6 3RD AMG, the icon he displays in his video doesn’t appear to be a warning light. As several folks in the comments section of his clip pointed out, he had his fog lights turned on.

Indeed, the icon sure does look like a fog light marker that is implemented on a range of vehicles, Mercedes included. This mistake appears to be further corroborated in a reply that Giroud had to another user in the comments section of his clip.

However, this doesn’t discount the other problems Giroud has had with his AMG C6 3. In another TikTok video, he outright called the car a “lemon.” Like his other clip, he calls the vehicle “the most unreliable car” he has ever owned. “So basically there’s been a bunch of issues with this car. Check engine light, thermostat issues, there was oil leaking. My alignment was fixed multiple times. And still my tires just kept shredding themselves all four tires. And now I just finally got it back from the shop and all the sudden my electronics aren’t working,” he tells folks

All of the problems with the vehicle has made him not even want to drive it, he tells his followers.
