A lot of people talk about SUVs, including mechanics and critics. But they look at different aspects as critics focus on performance and mechanics know what brakes. This has caused critics and mechanics to disagree about one extremely popular Jeep SUV.

One Jeep SUV causes disagreements between mechanics and critics

The Jeep SUV that I’m investigating today is the Jeep Cherokee. It’s currently discontinued, but it will be back around 2026 or 2027.

Critics and drivers have been obsessed with the Cherokee for decades due to its rich heritage, practical uses, near-luxurious amenities, and stout off-roading features.

Between 2013 to 2018 it was one of the best-selling SUVs available. But it was neglected by Stellantis and never received crucial updates to keep it alive as sales declined.

In 2023, critics shared that the Cherokee features strong power from the turbocharged engine, a smooth suspension, increased value with tons of standard features, and excellent off-road capabilities.

A few potential drawbacks include that it has less cargo space than rivals and it was more expensive than other new SUVs.

But according to Bevurly the mechanic on TikTok, the Cherokee is truly horrendous and the Cherokee is one Jeep SUV that he really despises.

His problem is related to the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 270 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. The standard engine is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 180 hp and 171 lb-ft of torque.

CarComplaints shows that complaints about the engine are pretty low. There are no complaints for the 2023 model, the 2022 model has 16 complaints, and the 2021 model had a recall related to transmission problems that caused the loss of drive power.

J.D.Power gave the 2021 Cherokee a reliability rating of 85 out of 100, which is great. It’s above average. Plus, the score is based on feedback from real owners.

Some TikTokers claim that Bevurly has an unjust hatred for this popular Jeep SUV.
