You really shouldn’t open your door into anyone’s vehicle. And if it happens by accident, you should fess up immediately. But if you’re going to upset someone on the cul-de-sac, don’t choose the mechanic. They can really mess with your life. One DIY mechanic, for example, invented the most creative way to get sweet revenge on his neighbor.

The home mechanic later took to Reddit to tell his story. His neighbor “opened her door into my truck and dinged it. I saw her do it but she denied it and there were no witnesses or cameras.” That’s some major disrespect. The mechanic decided to escalate the situation: “I filed a report but was told it was ‘he said she said’ and was a civil matter.”

At that point, he must have considered giving up on justice. But he still had one more weapon: old auto parts.

“I had just rebuilt a differential and had a jacked up pinion gear. She drove a four-wheel drive half-ton Chevy. I don’t know what gave me the idea to do this but I put the pinion gear under her truck and I put a heavy HVAC zip tie around her driveshaft so it would slap the muffler.”

This con is getting complex! Our hero hung this beat-up old gear from his neighbor’s driveshaft and made sure she couldn’t ignore it.

“She backed out of the parking spot… Tink tink tink tink tink.” A piece of metal like that whacking against the muffler must have made quite the racket. “She stopped when she heard the noise then she noticed the pinion gear on the ground.”

That’s when the mechanic made his move. “I walked up and asked her if something was wrong.”

Perhaps this woman had completely forgotten the door ding incident. Or perhaps she just thought her neighborhood DIY mechanic was a straight shooter. She decided to ask his advice: “She said her truck was making a funny sound and asked me if I knew what the pinion gear was? I told her it looked like it was part of a transmission and she better have it towed.”

“She asked me if I knew of a good shop? Now this was not originally part of my plan but I ran with it. I gave her the name of a shop that had a really bad reputation of being kind of shady.” What a way to twist the knife!

The home mechanic was especially confident his neighbor wouldn’t get an honest opinion or good deal at the shady shop. “She was a snobbish b–– and I know she was talking down to the people at the shop. She treated anyone that was not college educated with disdain.”

Sure enough, the shop did the Chevy driver dirty. “The truck was gone for 2 weeks. I asked her what she found out and she told me the shop told her that she needed a new transmission and a bunch of other stuff. Apparently she ended up spending something like $3,500 to fix my zip tie and used car part on the ground.”

After the neighbor got her comeuppance, the home mechanic finally decided to foot the bill for his dented door himself.

“I took my truck into a body shop and had the door fixed for about $300.” He later joked, “I love the a–hole tax.” You can see the original Reddit post embedded below:
