A mechanic recommends avoiding 1 Chevy SUV for a Mazda instead
Mechanics love using TikTok and other platforms to talk about SUVs, and I’m here for it. However, one mechanic recommends avoiding one popular Chevy SUV for a Mazda instead, and I need to discover why.
This mechanic advises drivers to avoid a popular Chevy SUV
A mechanic named Sherwood Cook Jr, who owns Royalty Auto Service in Georgia was reading over a list of popular SUVS that critics love.
One popular Chevy SUV on the list is the Chevrolet Trailblazer. Critics gave it a rating of 8.0 out of 10, which sounds great. However, Sherwood said he wasn’t a fan.
Instead, he recommends going for the Mazda CX-30, which earned a score of 7.9. It’s barely behind the TrailBlazer.
Unfortunately, he didn’t share why he feels that way. It’s possible that he often works on more Chevy models than Mazda SUVs.
But according to J.D.Power, the 2024 Chevy Trailblazer has a reliability rating of 86 out of 100, which is great. Scores between 70 and 80 are average, while anything between 81 and 90 is above average. Ratings between 91 and 100 are best.

The 2024 Mazda CX-30 earned a score of 76 out of 100, putting it 10 points behind the TrailBlazer in terms of reliability
When it comes to pricing, the Trailblazer has an MSRP of $23,100. The CX-30 starts at $24,995. While the CX-30 is $1,895 more expensive, at least it comes with standard AWD.
To stick with this price range, you’ll have to be fine with the underpowered standard engines. The CX-30 starts with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that provides 191 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque.
With the Trailblazer, you get a 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine with 137 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque. The CX-30 starts with an attractive amount of power in comparison.
Perhaps Sherwood recommends the CX-30 because it has more value and power than the Chevy SUV. Plus, it’s been around longer, so he could be more familiar with it.
