Mazda is finally updating its ancient best-selling SUV
It’s no secret that the Mazda CX-5 is pretty old. It hasn’t received a significant update in quite some time. However, it didn’t exactly need one as it’s the best-selling SUV in the lineup. But it’s time to get excited for the 2026 Mazda CX-5 Hybrid to drop.
Mazda’s best-selling SUV is being redesigned
The Mazda CX-5 is a little old, but that’s fine. It was fully redesigned in 2017 and has been the brand’s best-selling SUV for years.
Some folks say if it ain’t broke then don’t fix it. While the CX-5 certainly isn’t broken, it could use some updated tech. It’s about to get a lot better with a massive modern refresh.
The 2026 Mazda CX-5 Hybrid is extremely close to being revealed with a new engine and total redesign. Seriously, it’s expected to drop this summer. A prototype has been spotted being tested around Los Angeles.
While the SUV has been only seen while covered in camouflage, you can tell that it has a new, sleeker style. It has a smaller grille, revised LED headlights, and new wheel designs. It has aggressive taillights that sit above a blocky bumper with dual tailpipes.
While the Mazda CX-50 Hybrid borrows an engine from the Toyota RAV4, the CX-5 Hybrid is taking a different approach. According to Cars Direct, it will sport a self-charging hybrid powertrain that has been developed in-house.
It will also be available with the next-generation Skyacive-Z powertrains that will debut in 2026. Unfortunately, the interior has been kept secret for now. But it’s safe to expect a simple, elegant design that promotes luxury comfort and optimal performance.
