Wild cellphone video shows a man hanging onto the back of a pickup truck before falling into traffic on the Massachusetts Turnpike. The incident occurred around 10 a.m. on Tuesday morning near Exit 134 in Boston.

According to the man who shot the shocking video, Olban Santos, the man tried to get inside the pickup truck several times. “I tried to honk at the guy, but the guy didn’t pay attention, he just drove off,” Santos told NBC Boston.

In the video, the pickup truck drags the man hanging onto the tailgate for at least 10 seconds before he finally lets go and falls onto the roadway. He then stood up and tried to flag down another car that stopped to avoid hitting him. Santos guessed the truck was going 20 to 30 miles per hour when the man fell off.

“He tried to get into some other car, and that’s pretty much it,” Santos said. “And the car there, they drove away.”

Somehow, the fall off the pickup truck did not seriously injure the man

“I was surprised, and I was like, ‘Damn, that is not normal,'” Santos added, saying the crazy scene went on for about 30 seconds in total. WHDH News reported that people in the area were understandably shocked that the man managed to avoid serious injury.

Santos said the man had stopped the gray pickup in the middle of the turnpike coming out of the city and tried to jump into the bed of the truck. The truck then started driving with him hanging on to it.

Emergency crews and Massachusetts State Police eventually responded to the scene for a report of a person having a mental health crisis. Police reported that Boston EMS transported the man to a nearby hospital for evaluation.

Massachusetts State Police also reported that the man jumped onto the hood of a Massachusetts Department of Transportation vehicle about 15 minutes after Santos filmed the video. MassDOT was unable to confirm that report.
